One Minute Tutorial:  Why E-mail?

1.) Why do I need an E-mail account?

Communication is important, epecially in the event of a disaster. Having some sort of E-mail account, is a vital need, that everyone has. You can access this form of communication from anywhere, send it from a computer or a cell phone, and they are generally free to have.

2.) Where Do I go to get E-Mail?

There are many e-mail service providers in the internet world, that provide free email accounts. Places such as www.myway.com - www.yahoo.com- www.hotmail.com - www.gmail.com - www.aim.com - www.mail.com, offer free accounts with regestration, for e-mail, that can be accessed through out the world. They are easy to sign up for.

3.) How do I register?

Simple! Go to the website, and select sign up, or new user, that will generally be located near the log in screen.

Fill out the information that they ask for

Submit all information once you've completed it!

You now have E-mail!

4.) How do I use e-mail?

Log into your account, using the log in screen, and once you are logged in, it will take you to your mailbox. From there you can create an e-mail to send to someone, using compose. You can also check your e-mail using the inbox feature.

To send an e-mail simply bring up a blank e-mail to send, using compose. Make sure you type in the e-mail address correctly, This is how it should look. yourname@yourserver.com

Put in a subject for your e-mail, and type in your message. Once completed, select send! It's that simple.

5.) Suggestions/Homework:

Try sending yourself an e-mail. Get into the practice. Your e-mail address is always your name for your account, and the e-mail provider that you've chosen, followed by .com, .net, .org. Once you've regestered with the e-mail provider, they will tell you what your e-mail address is.

A perfect Example of that is my e-mail address which is mistypkesler@myway.com

Once you've gotten that down, start sending e-mail to your friends and family, make your e-mail known to everyone you associate with. When it comes to an emergency, you'll be glad that you have a way to contact, or be contacted.
